Anatoly Avdievsky
Biography
Avdiievskyi Anatolii Tymofiiovych was born on August 16, 1933 in the village of Fedvar (now Pidlisne), Kirovohrad region. In 1958, he graduated from the Odesa State Conservatory named after A. Nezhdanova, studied with D. Zahretskyi and K. Pyhrov.
Founder, artistic director and chief conductor of the Polissia Song and Dance Ensemble "Lenok" (1958-63); artistic director and chief conductor of the Cherkasy Ukrainian Folk Choir (1963-66); artistic director and chief conductor of the Ukrainian Folk Choir named after H. Veriovka (since 1966). Lecturer at Kyiv universities: Conservatory (1971-76), Institute of Culture (1977-80), Pedagogical Institute, Ukrainian Pedagogical University (since 1980, professor since 1986).
Member of the Taras Shevchenko State Prize Committee (from 09.1996 to 09.1999). Honored Artist of Ukraine (1967). People's Artist of the USSR (1983). Founding member of the Academy of Arts of Ukraine (12.1996). Laureate of the Taras Shevchenko State Prize of Ukraine (1968), State Prize of the USSR (1978). In August 2003, by the Decree of the President of Ukraine, he was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine with the Order of the State.
Among his works: "Greeting Dance", "Clear Moon", "No Thunder in the Steppes", "Over the Wide Dnipro", arrangements of Ukrainian folk songs: "Lullaby," "Pavochka Walks," "Green Oaks," "Hear, My Brother," "My Thoughts," and songs of the world's peoples.
